Printing Tips

Printing has been vastly improved and upgraded!  Now, you can configure printers by location and task (like labor and delivery for deliveries).  So, when you print a delivery, it will automatically go to the LnD printer.

Hospital Network Printer Tips:

  • Many hospitals have networked HP printers with external jet direct boxes.  In general you access these printers via WiFi.  You can identify the printer by pressing the button on this network device - your printer will print a lot of information, including the printer's IP address.   You Use this IP address to identify the printer when adding a networked printer on your PocketPC.  You can then name the printer whatever you like to remember the location - e.g., LnD, Office, etc.

 Wireless printing options

  • Infrared - this is widely available, and easy to use, but slow.  You need to find a printer with the infrared reader window (a dark plastic receiver on the front of the printer) - point, and print.  You must keep it pointed at the printer the whole time you print (about 30 seconds), or your print output will be interrupted.

  • You can configure it the first time simply by pointing at the printer during setup - very easy!.

  • Commonly this the LaserJet Monochrome Series when you choose the printer type.

  • Bluetooth - this is like Infrared, but faster, and you don't need to point it - it works 30ft away.  Many new printers have Bluetooth.  However, you can make any printer Bluetooth by purchasing an add on adapter.  Here is a good one from Hewlett-Packard.

  • WiFi - By far the best method - get your WiFi network set up, then enter the IP address as shown above, and you can print to the printer wherever you are!  Our president uses WiFi to print directly in Labor ad Delivery, even when he is across the street in his office!
